Healthcare is one of the biggest and most important industries in the world. If we talk about India only, the valuation of the healthcare industry in 2023 has reached 372 bn USD including the public and private sector, and over the past few years, this industry has experienced exponential growth. Still, in comparison to India’s population, this growth is not enough as there is still a lot to improve to provide a better health solution to every individual in the society.

In this blog, we are going to talk about the healthcare sector in Rajasthan. Rajasthan is one of the states that still holds and preserves its cultural heritage and shares its borders with Pakistan. Due to the natural positioning of Rajasthan(one of the hottest states and having a desert), the economic growth has been a little bit slow as compared to the other states in terms of connectivity, in terms of education, and in terms of healthcare.

The government of Rajasthan has been taking many steps and implemented many schemes to develop healthcare sector in Rajasthan in all aspects.

If we talk about healthcare facilities only, the government has around 1700 packages to serve its society but here the main problem was that the public was not very well versed about these packages, government schemes, and medical insurance, and going online and looking for these was another tough nut to crack.

Here comes one of our students, Dr. Mahendra Singh, who works at RNT Medical College in Udaipur. By profession, he is a doctor but at the same time, he is equally interested in Data Science too. He completed his data science course and learned multiple tools and technologies.

On behalf of these learnings, he came up with a solution for the above problem which proved to be a revolution in the healthcare sector for Rajasthan. The first one is

Chiranjeevi Beema Yojna

The state government has around 1700 schemes and packages for healthcare to serve the population of Rajasthan and the gov tried in all possible ways to advertise them and inform its people but that was not enough. Putting everything online was also insufficient as a significant section of society is not literate on the internet. Here comes Dr. Mahendra who wants to contribute and serve both the government and the public.

To solve this problem, Mahendra came up with the idea of using QR to access all the information related to government facilities.

How it works:

1. Any individual can scan the QR code from a mobile and it re-directs you to a webpage.

2. Here a user can look for the treatment or the package as per the requirement.

3. The webpage will show the necessary details related to packages and hospitals as per the disease and requirement.

This idea worked in both ways. It helped the hospitals in generating revenue as well as helped the society by providing health facilities in cheaper or free of cost.

The Chief Minister of Rajasthan has awarded Dr. Mahendra Singh for this initiative and now the government has decided to implement this model in all the hospitals of the state.

Tools used to develop this healthcare solution:

1. Microsoft Azure as a cloud service provider
2. Azure Data Factory for automation processes.
3. Microsoft PowerBI for reporting purposes.
4. Big Data technologies like PySpark and Databricks.

Another contribution of Dr. Mahendra in revolutionizing the healthcare sector is

QR Code-based Cleaning System

Another thing that Mahendra noticed in the hospital is that hospital hygiene and sanitation are some of the problems that the patients or their relatives face regularly. The main reason for this problem is that the individuals didn’t know how to raise a complaint or inform the hospital management about the issue which caused a significant delay in the cleaning process of the hospital.

To solve this problem Mahendra came up with an idea and developed A QR-based Solution for complaining about the cleanliness problem.

How it works:

1. Whenever any visitor in the hospital faces any cleanliness problem he/she has to scan the QR and upload the pictures only. It will generate an automatic mail to the hospital department and this complaint will be documented properly.
   
2. This mail will notify the hospital management team of the issue and they will proceed with the task and complete the cleaning within 30 minutes.
   
3. Once the cleaning is completed and the photos get uploaded only then the status of the issue change to resolved from the admin side.
   
4. The user who raised the complaint receives a thank you note from the hospital management. This has shortened the time for addressing such issues.

This initiative has given a new direction to RNT Medical College in terms of quick response in hospital maintenance, and also the convenience to the patients. Soon this idea was recognized by the Government of Rajasthan

The government of Rajasthan has also ordered all the medical colleges to implement this service for better cleaning and sanitation processes in the hospital premises and in this regard

Tools used to develop this solution:

1. Microsoft PowerBI for reporting dashboards and tracking.
2. OpenCV for creating QR and redirection purposes.

These solutions were developed by Dr. Mahendra in 2022 and since then both of these applications have done a tremendous job. The state gov has acknowledged the importance and potential of these solutions, awarded Mahendra, and implemented in all over the Rajasthan public and private hospitals which is contributing to revenue generation as well as process optimization in terms of hygiene and sanitation
