Happy 19th Birthday, LinkedIn!

LinkedIn is one of the most powerful and genuinely useful social media sites of the 21st century. Whenever we talk about jobs, employment opportunities, or professional services, LinkedIn tops the list.

Many of you might wonder that it is just a social media portal for working professionals, but it is far more than that.

What Actually is LinkedIn?

To understand this, we will have to dig down into the history of the company. Since its start, the company and its offerings have come a long way and have changed incredibly since then.

With new features adding up regularly, it is not just a social media site, but a one-stop portal for all your professional needs. Whether you’re a student or a fresher looking for a job, a company looking to hire candidates, a business that wants to find a relevant target audience, or trying to generate quality leads for the business, LinkedIn has it all that you might think about.

History of LinkedIn

Starting on May 5, 2003, in Mountainview, California USA by Reid Hoffman & Eric Ly, the company is turning 18 today.

At the very start, this portal was used by job seekers to post their CVs in order to find jobs, companies that posted job opportunities, and for professional networking and career development.

It has been free to use the portal for everyone since it started but it offers premium services to individual users as well as companies in order to get the best possible relevant opportunities.

In 2016, Microsoft acquired LinkedIn as a whole owned subsidiary.

Since its acquisition by Microsoft, its services achieved a new high and have been revolutionizing ever since.

At present, the company has more than 775 million registered users from over 200 countries around the globe. According to 2022 data, the company has more than 21000 employees all around the world.

It allows its users to create their professional profiles and connect with other users in a real-time environment. Users can also share text posts, photos, videos, documents, job applications, articles, and create polls that get shared with their connections and mutual connections.

The algorithms are set up in an order to maximize the reach of the user’s content.

The current CEO of the company is Ryan Roslansky and previous CEO Reid Hoffman is chairman of the board.

In its most revolutionary acquisition, LinkedIn acquired e-learning company Lynda and changed its name to LinkedIn Learning.

The best thing about Linkedin is that you can not only find jobs or connect with people, but can also learn almost all the tools, technologies, or skills that might help you in career growth.

It’s been 19 years and the company has helped millions of people in getting jobs and earning employment.
